Jacques Selosse
Pioneer of grower Champagne with Burgundy-influenced terroir expression
i. Biography
Anselme Selosse is the former winemaker and proprietor of Champagne Jacques Selosse, a family domaine in Avize on the Côte des Blancs, which his father Jacques founded in 1959 by bottling their own wines after centuries of grape growing. After studying oenology in Beaune, Burgundy, he joined the domaine in 1974, took full control in 1980, and revolutionized Champagne through organic viticulture, low yields, oak fermentation, and terroir-focused single-vineyard bottlings from grands crus like Avize, Cramant, and Oger. He retired in 2018, passing the estate to his son Guillaume, while converting part of the property into a boutique hotel and restaurant.
