i. Biography
Bruno Giacosa (1929-2018) was an Italian winemaker from Neive in Piedmont's Langhe region, starting at age 15 in his family's third-generation wine business, initially as a grape buyer for bulk winemaking before launching Casa Vinicola Bruno Giacosa in 1961 with his first Barbaresco Riserva. In 1964, he pioneered Piedmont's first single-vineyard wine, Barbaresco Santo Stefano, and acquired vineyards including Falletto in Serralunga d'Alba in 1982 to establish Azienda Agricola Falletto di Bruno Giacosa, producing acclaimed Barolo and Barbaresco from sites like Asili, Rabajà, La Morra, and Collina Rionda. Renowned for his perfectionism, he declassified vintages like 2006 and 2010 if standards were unmet, cementing his legacy as one of Italy's greatest producers.
