i. Biography
David Barzelay is the chef and owner of Lazy Bear, a two Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco's Mission District that he opened in 2014 after starting as an underground dinner party in his apartment in 2009 following his layoff as a lawyer. He is also a partner in the affiliated cocktail bar True Laurel, opened in 2017 with Bar Director Nicolas Torres. Lazy Bear earned a Michelin star in its first eligible year and was upgraded to two the following year, while Barzelay was named a Best New Chef by Food & Wine in 2016.
