i. Biography
Heinz Reitbauer, born August 23, 1970, in Vienna to parents from Styria who opened Steirereck in 1970, trained at the hotel school in Altötting, Germany, apprenticed at the family restaurant, and worked with Karl and Rudi Obauer, Alain Chapel, Anton Mosimann, and Joël Robuchon. In 1992, his family acquired a farm in Pogusch, Styria, opening Wirtshaus Steirereck am Pogusch in 1996, where he served as chef until 2005 when he relocated to Vienna to lead Steirereck im Stadtpark in the Meierei im Stadtpark, succeeding Helmut Österreicher. Under his leadership, Steirereck has earned three Michelin stars (2025), top rankings on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list, four toques from GaultMillau, and recognition as Austria's best restaurant by Fallstaff and À la Carte guides.
