Jan Hartwig is a German chef born in Helmstedt, Lower Saxony, who began cooking at age four inspired by his chef father. He advanced through roles at Kastell in Wernberg-Köblitz under Christian Jürgens, with Klaus Erfort in Saarbrücken, and from 2007 as Chef de Partie then Sous Chef at Aqua in Wolfsburg under Sven Elverfeld. As head chef at Atelier in Munich's Hotel Bayerischer Hof from 2014 to 2021, he elevated it to three Michelin stars; in October 2022, he opened his own Restaurant JAN in Munich, which earned three Michelin stars within six months and five toques from Gault&Millau.
