i. Biography
Lalou Bize-Leroy (born 1932) is a French businesswoman and winemaker who transformed Burgundy's wine industry through pioneering biodynamic viticulture and quality-focused winemaking. She took over her father Henri Leroy's négociant business, Maison Leroy, in 1955 at age 23, and served as co-manager of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) from 1974 to 1992, where she helped elevate it to world-class status through organic methods and rigorous quality standards. In 1988, she founded Domaine Leroy by acquiring significant vineyard holdings across Burgundy's premier appellations, and established Domaine d'Auvenay, both of which she operates using biodynamic farming principles inspired by Rudolf Steiner's philosophy.
