i. Biography
Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, born in 1970, is the seventh Count Liger-Belair who founded Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair in Vosne-Romanée in 2000 with 3.2 hectares including Village and 1er Cru wines, taking over vinification of the monopole Grand Cru La Romanée from Régis Forey in 2002 while phasing out contracts with Bouchard Père & Fils by 2005. He holds degrees in engineering, business, and oenology from Dijon, marking the first hands-on winemaking in his family after centuries as landlords following the estate's partial loss in the 1933 auction, which his grandfather Michel and great-uncle Just rescued parcels of La Romanée, Aux Reignots, and Les Chaumes from. Over two decades, he expanded the domaine to 10.5 hectares across Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Flagey-Échezeaux, acquiring key plots like Échezeaux, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots in 2006, and the monopole Clos des Grandes Vignes in 2012.
